The Headwaters of the Amazon

After descending out of the Ecuadorean Cloudforest we came to a new biome....the beginning of the Amazon.

​

Rainforest.

Ancient cultures.

Far, far, FAR from the rest of the world. 

Our lodge was on the banks of the Naipo which combine with other tributaries which eventually flow as the Amazon to The Atlantic Ocean.

This is a different and fascinating aspect of Ecuador. Removed from the high Andean native cultures...the cultures here create a chain of related native groups the extend throughout the Amazon Basin.

Visitn one of the villages accessible only by boat was a highlight. Trying the local "beverage", nibbles off of some great local vegetables and trying our hand at blow darts....made for many awesome memories.
