Exploring the rainforests along the Napo River was another highlight of our trip. The many types of plants that thrive in the different layers of the rainforest always intrigues me.

The solitude in these lush places always helps me feel connected to our Earth and to the immense diversity in our human experiences.

A few people have asked me to compare Costa Rica and Ecuador. Both are extremely diverse. Both have volcanoes, rainforests, beaches and rivers. Ecuador is much larger and it is possible that it actually has greater biodiversity than Costa Rica due to more land area and more range diversity between the Andes and the Amazon.

Both are outstanding countries to explore and I have enjoyed Costa Rica twice and plan to visit Ecuador again. I would say it is easier getting around Ecuador and the roads are far better than Costa Rica.
