The Knights of Templar.... had one of their base fortresses here in Tomar. There is a burial crypt in one of the churches here for the knights.  The fortress dominates the town and can be seen from miles away. This is also in one of the most fertile areas of the Iberian peninsula....which means excellent food, olive oil and WINE!
